12,750 acres removed from Large Tracts Program after additional sale between Stimson Lumber Company and the Coeur d’Alene Tribe
During 2024 and 2025, nearly 30,000 acres of private land enrolled in the Large Tracts Program were sold by Stimson Lumber Company to the Coeur d’Alene Tribe. Recently, an additional 12,750 acres owned by Stimson were sold to the Tribe.

"We are already seeing significant improvements to the wetlands at Sterling since our first prescribed burn implemented last year,” said Fish and Game Regional Habitat Biologist Maria Pacioretty.
Homeowners and recreationists: Be vigilant during coyote mating and denning seasons
With February comes the coyote breeding season, which can mean an increase in conflicts between coyotes and domestic dogs in the Boise area. Chinook season proposals to be posted on Feb. 11
Idaho Fish and Game will be setting new seasons for upcoming spring and summer Chinook fisheries and gathering public input on the upcoming season proposals from Feb. 11 to Feb. 22. The public comment period will include four regional public meetings during the third week in February.
Temporary road closure at Sand Creek Ponds/Campground
Effective immediately, Fish and Game is temporarily closing the entrance road into the Sand Creek ponds and campground area due to muddy conditions. Melting ice and snow have made the roads unstable and vehicle travel difficult without causing long-lasting and damaging effects.

Out of an abundance of caution, Idaho Fish and Game has canceled the Hyde Pond Kids’ Ice Fishing Derby scheduled for Saturday, February 7, in Salmon.
River otter trapping season closed in the Salmon Region
The river otter harvest quota for Idaho’s Salmon Region was reached on Tuesday, February 3, 2026. The otter trapping season for the entire region closes 72 hours after the harvest quota has been met. As a result, the otter season for the entire region closes at 11:59 p.m. on Friday, February 6, 2026.
