Spring Chinook Salmon Fishery Update (5/4/2021) Rapid River Run, Hells Canyon, and Clearwater River Fisheries

Youth turkey hunters gathered with excitement on Wed. April 7th at the Lewis-Clark gun range near Lapwai. Nine youth, ages 8-12 registered on a first-come, first-serve basis for a once- a-lifetime opportunity to get a jet boat ride into the Garden Creek Ranch facility to hunt turkeys along the Snake River in Hells Canyon.

Spring is here, and so is the peak of baby wildlife season. People are bound to see young wildlife when they venture outdoors during the spring and early summer, and there is a pretty good chance that they will see a baby animal that appears to be alone. Fish and Game officials have a simple suggestion to people who discover baby animals that appear to be abandoned: Just leave them be.

Boise angler reclaims his former state catch-and-release record with a whopping 39.25-inch steelhead, topping the previous record by 1.25 inches. 

Spring family fishing opportunities are here. Eleven locations scattered throughout the Clearwater region will be stocked with catchable sized (10-12 inch) rainbow trout this month!

We often get questions from the public asking what's the difference between a rainbow trout and a steelhead. It's understandable that people would ask this given the literally BIG difference between small sized rainbow trout and large steelhead. The cool thing is that there are differences between them, but also, they are the same thing.
