Beginning July 8, the Chinook salmon fishing season on the South Fork Salmon River will increase from four days per week to seven days per week. With water levels dropping and water temperatures increasing, this change is being implemented to increase the likelihood of reaching the harvest share.
Fish and Game’s Southwest Region has closed access to the Boise River WMA due to the Claremont Fire, in coordination with the Bureau of Land Management’s temporary closures of BLM-managed public lands and trails within the Boise Foothills. Fish and Game staff have closed all gated access points to the WMA.
The Idaho Fish and Game Commission will meet July 15 and 16 at Fish and Game’s Magic Valley Regional Office at 324 South 417 East in Jerome. A public hearing will begin on July 15 at 7 p.m. MDT at the same location.
During June, about a million kokanee fingerlings raised from Idaho Fish and Game’s first “captive broodstock” were released into Idaho’s lakes and reservoirs. Many of those fish will reach catchable size within two to three years.
Effective July 5 and continuing until October 1, the Idaho Fish and Game Commission ordered that bag and possession limits be removed on portions of the Big Wood River below the dam, from a point beginning at the railroad trestle, approximately 1.25 miles downstream of the dam, extending to the State Highway 75 Bridge. The order also includes the Richfield Canal from the upstream point of diversion from the Big Wood River to its confluence with the Little Wood River near Richfield, Idaho.
