Volunteer opportunities for upcoming sagebrush and bitterbrush plantings in the Magic Valley Region

idfg-Kenzie.Baratti

Planting sagebrush and bitterbrush provides a great opportunity for Idahoans to help recover damaged winter range and wildfire rehabilitation

Idaho Fish and Game’s Magic Valley Region, in partnership with the Sawtooth National Forest Service, Rinker Rock Creek Ranch and the Wood River Valley Chapter of the Mule Deer Foundation, is seeking volunteers to help plant sagebrush and bitterbrush seedlings in several areas throughout the region. These projects will help restore important winter range and other wildlife habitat that have been damaged by wildfire and other disturbances.

Restoring these areas is an important part of maintaining healthy wildlife habitat across the region. Sagebrush and bitterbrush provide important forage and cover for mule deer, sage-grouse and other upland birds, and establishing new vegetation can help improve habitat conditions and support wildlife populations.

Volunteer projects also provide an opportunity for families, individuals, groups and organizations to get directly involved in improving public lands and supporting habitat restoration efforts.
