Fisheries biologists in Southwest Idaho have been getting flooded with calls from anglers about walleye they caught in Lake Lowell in recent weeks, who are following the guidance provided on signs around the fishery. While biologists appreciate anglers’ eagerness to report walleye catches or observations, there’s a new, simple message for walleye caught in Lake Lowell: Catch, kill, and keep.
Idaho Fish and Game will be developing a new parking area and designated camping sites at Dog Creek Reservoir. These developments have become necessary to reduce ongoing vandalism, illegal dumping, and unattended or unsafe fires in an area particularly vulnerable to wildfire.
To support the needs of fish and the desires of fisherman on Lake Pend Oreille, Idaho Fish and Game staff spawn adult kokanee and then release millions of fry from those spawning efforts into Granite Creek each year.
Idaho Fish and Game is currently conducting an angler survey, also known as a creel survey, on the Kootenai River. The survey will run from June 1 through Oct. 15 of 2025.
Idaho Fish and Game's Magic Valley Region will host a Free Fishing Day event at Riley Pond in Hagerman, located next to the Hagerman State Fish Hatchery on the Hagerman Wildlife Management Area. The event will run from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
