Hatchery employees at Niagara Spring Hatchery near Wendell are taking precautions against a potential disease outbreak by vaccinating their steelhead smolts.
The vaccination process is simple, as the fish are immersed into a vaccine bath for one minute and returned to a rearing unit immediately after.

F&G is seeking public input on sage-grouse hunting proposals

Fish and Game is proposing one option for the 2017 season, which is the same as the season offered in 2016. Statewide, the proposed seven-day season would be from September 16 through September 22, with a one-bird daily limit within sage-grouse range, except in designated closed areas.

Trout stocking resumes on the South Fork of the Payette River

After a long hiatus, hatchery rainbow trout are headed back to the South Fork of the Payette River near Lowman starting July 18 to provide a few more fish for anglers to catch.

The food plots have been planted and are now popping out of the ground at Niagara Springs WMA. Food plots of sorghum, millet, sunflowers, and soybeans were all planted this year to provide forage and cover for both game and nongame wildlife.
