Upper Salmon River Steelhead Fishing Report (4/24/17)

Steelhead angler effort on the upper Salmon River dropped over the past week, but catch rates were good for this late in the season. The majority of anglers were observed fishing in location code 19 near Stanley, ID.

Last chance to buy licenses before Access/Depredation fee takes effect May 1

Hunters, anglers and trappers will see new prices starting May 1 with the addition of a $5 Access/Depredation fee for resident adults and $10 for nonresident adults when they buy their first annual license.

During the month of April, Black's Creek Range is open to the public from 10:00am to 4:00pm Friday through Monday. The range will be closed to public shooting on April 22nd for a Black Powder Cartridge Rifle Silhouette match. New match participants and observers are welcome at this event

Chinook salmon are slow to show in Idaho, but should arrive soon

Salmon fishing seasons are tricky because the run size and fishing seasons vary from year to year based on how many fish return to Idaho and how many hatchery fish are available for sport harvest.

Rainbow Trout Stocking Schedule

Personnel from Fish and Game's McCall and Nampa Hatcheries will be releasing

more than 100,000 catchable-sized rainbow trout at the following locations during May.



Due to continued high water, fish earmarked for river stocking will be allocated to local ponds.

Fish and Game Trailer Theft Suspect Sought - Public’s Help Needed

In early April, a thief made off with tens of thousands of dollars of big game live-trapping and monitoring equipment, together with the Fish and Game trailer they were stored in.

Commission to meet in Salmon in May

Outdoor Skills Workshop Slated

New hunters or hunters new to Idaho are invited to attend the Idaho Big Game Hunting 101 workshop sponsored by the Idaho Department of Fish and Game. The May 6th outdoor skills workshop will be held at Fish and Game Headquarters – 600 S. Walnut in Boise from 8am to 5pm. Workshop cost is $15/participant.

Record White Crappie Caught

Idaho has a new catch and release state record white crappie. On April 9th, Angela Padley landed the 12.5 inch crappie while fishing the Snake River below CJ Strike Dam.

Steelhead anglers on the upper Salmon River continued having success over the past week. The area with the highest effort and best catch rates was upstream of the Yankee Fork in location code 19.
