Anglers who participated this winter are encouraged to submit completed packets before the deadline

If you participated in the 2026 Kootenai River Angler Science Program, thank you for contributing your time and information. The data you collected plays an important role in helping Idaho Fish and Game monitor and manage the burbot fishery in the Kootenai River.

Turn in your packet by April 1

Burbot season is winding down, and now is the time to turn in your completed Angler Science Program packet. Packets must be submitted by April 1 to be eligible for raffle prizes.

Packets can be turned in at:

  • Fish and Game Panhandle Region Office
  • Far North Outfitters in Bonners Ferry
  • North 40 Outfitters in Ponderay

You do not need to have caught a burbot to be eligible for the raffle. As long as you participated in the fishery, completed your logbook and contact card and turn in your packet by the deadline, you will be entered to win. Trips where no burbot were caught are just as important as successful outings and provide valuable information for managing the fishery.

If you’d like more information about the Angler Science Program and the raffle prizes that will be given away for participating, check out this story.

Have you ever wondered where that burbot you caught came from, or how old it is? By turning in your packet on time, Fish and Game will provide that information for any burbot you caught and submitted genetic samples from.

Remember to report tagged burbot

If you caught a burbot with a tag this season and haven’t reported it yet, please do so. Tag information helps Fish and Game better understand catch rates, harvest rates and survival, which supports management of the burbot fishery.

You can report tag information by:

  • Reporting online
  • Completing the reporting form included in your packet

Some tags carry a reward of up to $100. Reward tags are reported the same way as non-reward tags; however, the physical tag must be mailed in to claim the reward.

Reward tags can be mailed to:
Idaho Department of Fish and Game
Attn: Fish Tag Returns
600 S. Walnut Street/P.O. Box 25
Boise, ID 83712
