People’s tolerance and appreciation for wildlife is admirable, but “coexisting” with wild animals often leads to a well-intended – but inaccurate – assumption it’s a two-way agreement, which animals are incapable of making. When an animal seems secure and nonthreatening, people often “adopt” it as a neighbor without knowing the downsides of living close to wildlife.

Idaho Fish and Game announced on Tuesday, Nov. 19 that the portion of the Boise Front Segment of Boise River Wildlife Management Area west of Highway 21 will remain closed to all human entry through March 31, when deer and elk begin migrating out of the area next spring. The closure will benefit wintering big game and accommodate rehabilitation efforts following the Valley Fire.
After repeated incidents of accessing unsecured residential garbage, a yearling black bear was euthanized north of Hailey on Thursday, November 14, 2024. The young male that weighed approximately 100 pounds had twice broken into a garage to find food and there were signs of the bear attempting to get into a house. Since the bear was showing increasingly aggressive behavior, the decision was made to trap and euthanize the bear to protect public safety.
