Idaho Fish and Game

Deadwood Reservoir, kokanee bag limit

Proposal

Reduce the daily bag limit for kokanee at Deadwood Reservoir from 15 to 6.

Rationale

The kokanee population in Deadwood Reservoir has traditionally functioned as a harvest fishery and prey source for trophy rainbow trout and other salmonids. Deadwood Reservoir has also been the department’s primary egg source for early spawning kokanee which are stocked throughout the state.

The kokanee population collapsed around 2021-2022 and the department is taking steps to rebuild this population. Harvest of kokanee should be limited until the population rebuilds.

Review the proposal below and submit by June 10, 2024, at 6 p.m. MDT.

After reviewing feedback and considering agency goals, season recommendations will be presented to the Commission for their consideration at the July 2024 meeting.
