Volunteers Needed to Plant for Wildlife

Moose, sheep and goat rules available soon

Idaho's 2017 and 2018 moose, bighorn sheep and mountain goat seasons and rules booklet arrived from the printer and should be available at Fish and Game offices and license vendors later this week.

Peregrine capture permit application period to open

In January 2016, the Idaho Fish and Game Commission adopted seasons and rules to continue annual capture of up to two nestling or juvenile wild peregrine falcons to be used for falconry. The 2017 permit application period is open March 15 through April 15.

Caught on Camera: Students witness Steelhead Hatch

Local 5th grade students witness steelhead eggs hatching as part of the Steelhead in the Classroom Program. Eggs were delivered to the schools on Monday, March 6th. Students will raise fish until the middle of May when they will release them into the Clearwater River.

State wildlife action plan renewed for 10 years

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service recently approved Idaho’s State Wildlife Action Plan, which renews the plan for about a decade and means the Idaho Department of Fish and Game will continue to get about $550,000 annually in federal money.

Female mountain lion harvest season closed in Unit 23

Lion hunters should note that the harvest season for female mountain lion has closed in game management unit 23, as the harvest quota of eight females was reached March 9, 2017.



Hunters will be allowed to keep female mountain lions taken prior to this closure but must report them within five days… more

Is This the End of Cascade Ice Fishing

Getting on the ice at Lake Cascade is tough right now.All of the ice at the southern access points has moved off shore. Anglers were still getting on the ice at Boulder and Poison Creek accesses. Clagstone Meadows public access opens Aug. 1

Clagstone Meadows, a large expanse of timberland owned by Stimson Lumber Company, was recently protected under the terms of a Forest Legacy Conservation Easement to benefit wildlife, local economies, clean water, and it will open for public recreation this summer.
