The Idaho Fish and Game Commission is scheduled to hold a special conference call on Friday, Sept. 29 at 8 a.m. MDT. The Commission could make a decision to suspend fishing, hunting and trapping on a portion of the Snake River after quagga mussel larvae were detected.
Fish and Game staff will be stocking more than 31,000 catchable-size (10 to 12 inch) trout at the following locations across the Southwest Region in October. Many community ponds in Southwest Idaho are getting their first shot of fish since spring, as fall approaches and water conditions improve – making for lots of fishing opportunity close to home for Treasure Valley anglers.
Pheasant season opens Oct. 14 in North Idaho and Oct. 21 in South and East Idaho. Fish and Game will stock nearly 30,000 pheasants this year at locations in every region of the state. Hunters can see a full list of where and when pheasants will be released statewide on the Pheasant Stocking Program webpage.
Idaho Fish and Game also provides more access for sportsmen and women. The department owns, manages and keeps open to the public about 370,000 acres at its wildlife management areas, and provides millions more acres through its various agreements and lease programs with various state and private lands.
The Bureau of Land Management Idaho Falls District Office will conduct a 264-acre prescribed burn in John Evans Canyon, 8 miles west of Malad in October. Smoke will be visible from Malad and the Interstate 15 corridor.
Hunters are reminded that it takes up to 10 business days delivery time when ordering tags online or by phone. Save yourself the last-minute panic and order early or in person before your trip to ensure you have your tags.
As temperatures cool, fishing heats up at local fishing holes. Idaho Fish and Game will stock 1,900 trout in the 10-12-inch range at four area waters in October.
