Idaho Fish and Game

Idaho Fish and Game is seeking comments on its 2024-2025 Migratory Game Bird Season proposals.

Review the draft proposal below and submit comments by 6 p.m. MST, March 24, 2024.

After reviewing feedback and considering agency goals, season recommendations will be presented to the Commission for their consideration via conference call on April 17.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service approved the STANDARD (60 days; 15-bird bag) regulatory alternative for the 2024 season, which allows for a maximum firearm season of 60 days, occurring between September 1 and January 15.

Mourning and White-winged dove seasons are guided by the mourning dove harvest strategy in the Western Management Unit, which is based on band returns. The USFWS approved the STANDARD (60 days; 15-bird bag) regulatory alternative for the 2024 season, which allows for a maximum season of 60 days, occurring between September 1 and January 15. Furthermore, extended falconry seasons are those dates outside of regular, special, or experimental gun firearm seasons when migratory game birds may be taken by falconry. The combined length of the extended falconry season and regular season must not exceed 107 days.

The proposed statewide firearm season structure for doves is:

  • September 1 – October 30
  • Proposed daily bag limit: 15 mourning and white-winged doves in the aggregate.
  • Possession limit: three times the daily bag limit.

The proposed statewide extended falconry season for doves is:

  • January 23, 2025 – March 10, 2025
  • Proposed daily bag limit: 3 mourning and white-winged doves in the aggregate.
  • Possession limit: three times the daily bag limit.
