Idaho Fish and Game

Idaho Fish and Game is seeking comments on its 2024-2025 Migratory Game Bird Season proposals.

Review the draft proposal below and submit comments by 6 p.m. MST, March 24, 2024.

After reviewing feedback and considering agency goals, season recommendations will be presented to the Commission for their consideration via conference call on April 17.

In recent years, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has allowed liberal (107 days) Canada goose seasons. Those 107 days can occur between September 21, 2024, and February 15, 2025; early Canada goose seasons can be selected between September 1-20, 2024. While the federal framework for Canada geese was expanded to February 15, Idaho Fish and Game is not recommending modifying the season structure at this time. Results from a goose hunter opinion survey – that will be conducted during 2024 – will be used to inform the season structure in future years.

Idaho sets waterfowl seasons by zones. These zones balance hunting seasons with biological opportunity, environmental conditions, and social desires. The number of zones a state can have is set within the Federal Framework. Currently, Idaho has six Canada goose zones.

Most recently, the Idaho Fish and Game Commission has adopted 105-day seasons and a 2-day youth/military hunt.

The proposed season structure for Canada geese is:

(Please reference zone map below)

  • Zone 1: October 5, 2024 – January 17, 2025
  • Zone 2: October 19, 2024 – January 31, 2025
  • Zone 3: October 19, 2024 – January 31, 2025
  • Zone 4: September 1, 2024 – September 15, 2024 & October 5, 2024 – January 2, 2025
  • Zone 5: October 5, 2024 – January 17, 2025

  • Zone 6: October 5, 2024 – October 20, 2024 & November 4, 2024 – January 31, 2025

Proposed daily bag limit: 5 Canada geese. Possession limit: three times the daily bag limit.
