Idaho Fish and Game

Reward Offered in Grizzly Killing

idfg-staff
A $5000 reward is being offered for information leading the arrest of the person or persons involved in the illegal killing of a grizzly bear near Priest River. The remains of a poached grizzly bear were found this week by employees of the Idaho Department of Lands while working up the middle fork of East River just north of the town of Priest River. Grizzly bears are classified as a "threatened" species and are protected by both state and federal laws. Yet the illegal killing of grizzlies accounts for more than 90 percent of known mortalities within the Selkirk Mountains and remains a major hurdle to recovery for the bears. Anyone with information concerning this poaching may claim the reward and still remain anonymous. If you would like to report information on this particular case, or any grizzly bear poaching, please call the Idaho Department of Fish and Game at: (208) 267-4085 or (208) 448-2302. Citizens with information on this or any other poaching case can also contact the Citizens Against Poaching hotline at 1-800-632-5999. Callers can receive a cash reward while remaining anonymous.
