Complete course now so you can apply for controlled hunts

Future hunters who have not taken a hunter education course, but are interested in applying for a big game controlled hunt, still have a chance of getting into a course before the application periods end.

An instructor-led hunter education course is scheduled in Salmon on April 19, 20, 22, and 23 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm each evening, and the field day on April 24 from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm. This course is designed for youth 9 years of age or anyone new to hunting.

A field day for students who have completed the online course will be held in Salmon on April 24 from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm. The online course is designed for older students with good reading comprehension.

Both courses will be held to a limited number of students and masks are required. To register or for more details, go online to Fish and Game’s website at https://idfg.idaho.gov/hunt/education, or visit the Fish and Game office in Salmon at 99 Highway 93 North.

Anyone born after January 1st, 1975 must complete a hunter education course as a prerequisite to purchasing a hunting license - and a hunting license is required to apply for a controlled hunt.

The controlled hunt application period for moose, bighorn sheep and mountain goat ends May 1, with the application period for deer, elk, pronghorn, fall black bear and fall turkey ending June 5.
