About the position

The Hagerman State Fish Hatchery is seeking a fisheries Bio-aide for 4.75 months from early May 2024 to early October 2024. This is a full time (40 hours/week) non-benefited position. Weekend and some holiday work is required on a rotation. The position may require camping in a remote location for up to 10 days at a time.

General Information
Hagerman State Fish Hatchery is owned and operated by the Idaho Department of Fish and Game. The hatchery is responsible for the production and stocking of catchable and fingerling rainbow trout, white sturgeon, tiger muskie, and distribution of channel catfish throughout the state. Incumbents must, with or without reasonable accommodations, be able to work a variable schedule under adverse weather conditions, and lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Housing will be available.
Qualifications
Previous work experience and/or education in Aquaculture, Natural Resources or Biological Science preferred but not mandatory. Candidates with previous fish hatchery experience will be given preference. Will need mechanical experience/skills sufficient to operate machinery, pumps, lawn care equipment and perform general maintenance. Must be able to handle responsibility and work independently. Applicant will be required to work outdoors in and around water. Irregular work schedules are frequent; weekend, holiday and evening work will be required. Applicant must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to read, write and compute simple math.
Responsibilities
Perform fish culture duties at a large trout production hatchery. Fish culture responsibilities will include weighing fish feed, hand and tractor feeding of fish, sweeping and collecting mortality on indoor vats and outdoor raceways, sample counts, raceway sweeping, stocking fish, and maintaining hatchery grounds. Other responsibilities will include assisting permanent staff in the implementation of the day-to-day fish culture activities at the hatchery, data entry, and helping with routine hatchery duties.
