Idaho Fish and Game

Chronic Wasting Disease - Where Samples Are Needed

Idaho Fish and Game has been testing animals for CWD for over two decades, and that testing is ongoing.

CWD Management Zone units have mandatory testing, while units close to states with known CWD cases are sampled yearly and other areas in Idaho on a rotational basis.

View the map below to see focused sampling areas for 2023-2024. Hunters who harvest deer or elk in these areas are encouraged to provide Fish and Game with samples from their harvested animal. If you harvest a deer outside sampling areas or elk from anywhere in the state, you can also have your animal tested.
