Idaho Fish and Game, in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service through the Good Neighbor Authority (GNA), has completed vegetation restoration work at the Wendover Campground and Whitehouse Campground along the upper Lochsa River.

The work followed severe windstorms that caused extensive blowdown, hazardous trees, and debris throughout both campgrounds.

Completed vegetation restoration activities included:

  • Removal of hazard trees
  • Salvage logging of merchantable timber within campground boundaries
  • Mastication of slash and residual vegetation
  • Clearing debris from campsites, roads, and surrounding areas

Crews are now working to repair damaged infrastructure, including restroom facilities, picnic tables, and other campground amenities, in preparation for reopening the sites safely to the public.

Both campgrounds remain closed at this time, and visitors are asked to avoid entering the areas until repairs are complete.

“This work demonstrates how strong agency partnerships help maintain the recreation sites Idahoans and visitors rely on for camping, hunting, fishing, and outdoor access,” said project partners involved in the restoration effort.
