Statewide trout stocking highlights for June 2026

Approximately 243,000 catchable-sized rainbow trout will be stocked throughout the state this June.

Many of Idaho’s lakes and ponds are soon going to be bolstered with Idaho Fish and Game stocking over 243,000 catchable-sized rainbow trout this June. Wondering if the stocking trucks are going to be backing up to your favorite fishing hole? We asked our Fish and Game hatchery staff to boil down some of the most notable stocking highlights coming to your local fishery this month.

Fishing for stocked rainbow trout can be a great way to introduce budding anglers to the sport by using simple, inexpensive setups. Many of these fisheries highlighted below are easy to access, family-friendly fishing destinations. All you need to get started is a fishing license, and youth (under 14) fish for free. If you need a license, purchasing one on the fly is easy to do with your smartphone—and you can start fishing immediately!

June 2026 Fish Stocking Highlights

Day Rock Pond – 600 Rainbow Trout. This is a small pond in the Silver Valley where anglers can easily fish from the shore.

Elsie Lake – 810 Rainbow Trout. Offering excellent fishing for anglers of all levels, you will also find a beautiful setting. It's a drive-to mountain lake but the road is mountainous and rough.

Fernan Lake – 5,200 Rainbow Trout. A popular fishing spot 10-minutes from downtown Coeur d'Alene, anglers of all abilities can enjoy fishing from floating docks, miles of shoreline, or from boats.

Gene Day Pond – 1,500 Rainbow Trout. Also known as Osburn Pond, this water is stocked regularly so catch rates should be good!

Deer Creek Reservoir – 3,000 Rainbow Trout. This beautiful mountain reservoir was built specifically for trout fishing. Rainbow trout are stocked in this remote setting for high catch rates from shore or a boat. Boaters, please observe the no-wake restriction.

Deyo Reservoir – 5,000 Nestled amid farms and timber, this waterbody provides a great family fishing experience. A maintained trail surrounding the entire reservoir features seven fishing docks and two large fishing peninsulas, making it easy to find a good place to fish. There is also a developed boat ramp, picnic shelter, benches, and two handicap-accessible docks.

Elk Creek Reservoir – 6,000 Rainbow Trout. A forested road parallels the entire west side of this reservoir for easy access to fishing areas, with four fishing docks and a boat ramp. The east side of the reservoir provides great boat fishing opportunities where foot access is difficult.

Fenn Pond – 1,000 Rainbow Trout. If you visit the Selway River and are just looking for a good place to harvest some rainbows for dinner, check out this pond. It’s located next to the Selway River and offers especially good fishing. The boardwalk and fishing dock offer easy access.

Karolyn’s Pond – 1,000 Rainbow Trout. Located at the Clearwater Hatchery's satellite facility on the Red River, this is a pretty pond with grassy banks and a dock for fishing. It's small enough that an angler can cast to any part of the pond from shore. There is a Forest Service campground a bit further up Red River Road, so make it an overnight camping trip!

Kiwanis Park Pond – 450 Rainbow Trout. This convenient community pond is located next to the Snake River in Lewiston and is within walking distance of picnic shelters and a playground. The pond is stocked with rainbow trout to maintain high catch rates for anglers.

Moose Creek Reservoir – 3,000 Rainbow Trout. A shallow lake in rolling timbered hills on Idaho's Birding Trail, this reservoir is ideal for kayaks and float tubes. A trail surrounds the lake and nine fishing docks provide good shore fishing opportunities. Gas motors are not allowed.

Spring Valley Reservoir – 4,000 Rainbow Trout. Surrounded by rolling hills and trees, there is also a trail that surrounds the reservoir. In addition, fishing docks and platforms increase shoreline access. Gas motors are not allowed. This is Stop 35 on the Idaho Birding Trail!

White Sands Pond – 800 Rainbow Trout. Also known as Powell Pond, it’s located adjacent to the scenic Lochsa River just a short distance off Highway 12.

Winchester Lake – 6,000 Rainbow Trout. Located in a beautiful, forested setting, this lake offers very easy access. Docks and fishing platforms enhance fishing opportunities for beginners and accomplished anglers. Facilities include a picnic shelter, fish cleaning station, benches and picnic tables, and a variety of camping options.

Browns Pond (Airport Pond) – 600 Rainbow Trout. This small pond offers easy access to fishing on the southern edge of McCall airport and is hidden from the road.

Fischer Pond – 600 Rainbow Trout. Tucked into a city park, this pond provides good bank fishing. The pond is the cornerstone of a cooperative community effort.

Goose Lake – 4,000 Rainbow Trout. Located north of New Meadows near Granite Mountain. Fish are stocked at the campground boat launch.

Herrick Reservoir – 900 Rainbow Trout. Be sure to check land ownership boundaries as the entire east side of the reservoir is private property (no trespassing). Be respectful and drive slowly when traveling past private residences on the drive in.

Horsethief Reservoir – 17,500 Rainbow Trout. This reservoir has everything for a memorable fishing weekend - a beautiful lake in the trees and good fishing!

Little Payette Lake – 2,000 Tiger Trout. This is a natural lake with a depth of over 100 feet. From June through mid-September, irrigation storage doubles the surface area of the lake and inundates a large expanse of shallow flats containing stumps and root wads from what used to be forest land. This area can provide productive fishing.

Meadow Creek Pond – 300 Rainbow Trout. This is a scenic little pond nestled in the lush New Meadows valley next to the Little Salmon River.

Ol’ McDonald Pond – 300 Rainbow Trout. This small community pond in Council offers easy access next to Wilco Park.

Payette Lake – 5,000 Rainbow Trout. This beautiful lake is one of the most popular recreation spots in the State!

Rowlands Pond (Scout Pond) – 1,350 Rainbow Trout. This is a small but pretty pond in the woods close to McCall. Anglers will find good bank fishing in this peaceful setting.

Tripod Reservoir – 480 Rainbow Trout. This small lake near Smith’s Ferry is a great place to take the kids fishing and make some memories!

Warm Lake – 17,000 Rainbow Trout. Located in Valley County, this area is very popular for camping, hiking, boating and fishing.

Boise River, Strawberry Glen to Barber Dam – 1,728 Rainbow Trout

Boise River, Middleton to Eagle Road – 864 Rainbow Trout

Boise River, Arrowrock to MF/NF Confluence – 1,750 Rainbow Trout

Bull Trout Lake – 1,000 Rainbow Trout. This lake is nestled in the pines above Banner Summit. While anglers can easily fish from the shore, this lake is ideal for canoes, kick boats and float tubes.

Caldwell Rotary Pond – 720 Rainbow Trout. Located in a park-like setting with plenty of shade and lots of bank fishing opportunity for young anglers. A dock invites visitors of every mobility level to enjoy fishing.

Dick Knox Pond – 480 Rainbow Trout. This is a great place to take the kids fishing. It’s located in Emmett at the corner of West Sales Yard Road and Airport Road.

Grimes Creek – 1,600 Rainbow Trout. In addition to hatchery rainbows, small to medium-sized wild fish are also found in this creek. It is best fished shortly after high water.

Horseshoe Bend Mill Pond – 360 Rainbow Trout. Just north of town, this pond features easy access and productive fishing for bass and trout in a pleasant setting next to the Payette River. This pond is one of more than seventy waters designated as Family Fishing Waters in Idaho. These waters have been established to make it easier for families to go and enjoy fishing. The rules are simple and there are lots of fish to catch.

Kleiner Pond – 540 Rainbow Trout. Located within Julius M. Kleiner Memorial Park, there is a large fishing platform and plenty of shoreline access. This is a family-friendly water with paved paths and full-feature city park activities.

Lowman Ponds – 420 Rainbow Trout. Enjoy good mountain fishing along the South Fork Payette River.

Middle Fork Payette River – 1,500 Rainbow Trout. Access is great along a well-traveled road with good camping areas nearby.

North Fork Boise River – 1,750 Rainbow Trout. This is a popular mountain river where anglers can target a variety of salmonids within the mainstem and tributaries. Catch rates on this river won’t disappoint you!

Parkcenter Pond – 420 Rainbow Trout. A popular local fishing pond with a paved path alongside docks and tables with maturing trees. This convenient pond is near the greenbelt, the BSU campus, and a variety of restaurants.

Riverside Pond – 690 Rainbow Trout. A quiet neighborhood pond right off the Boise Greenbelt and tucked into the trees off Glenwood Road. This pond offers good bank fishing and a large fishing dock.

Sagehen Reservoir – 2,400 Rainbow Trout. This mountain reservoir is surrounded by forests. Five campgrounds are located adjacent to the reservoir and are managed by the Boise National Forest.

South Fork Payette River – 3,500 Rainbow Trout. Stocking locations include Mountain View Campground, near the fire station at Jolene Drive, Helene Campground, 10-mile Bridge (immediately adjacent to Lowman Ponds), and near Grandjean.

Weiser Community Pond – 300 Rainbow Trout. This community pond offers an easily accessible shoreline and dock fishing near the Weiser River.

Camas Kids Pond – 1,500 Rainbow Trout. This is a small, scenic pond near Fairfield. The Centennial Marsh and Camas Prairie Wildlife Management Area are nearby and provide great bird watching opportunities.

Castle Rocks State Park Fishing Pond – 500 Rainbow Trout. Besides fishing, this pond is also a great place to watch birds and wildlife. There is a walking path and benches to sit and enjoy the scenery.

Featherville Dredge Pond – 1,000 Rainbow Trout. This former gravel pit is now a nice trout fishing pond with camping nearby.

Filer Kids Pond and Filer Pond – 900 Rainbow Trout. These two ponds are a quick drive from Twin Falls. Both feature excellent access with regular trout stocking. Filer Kids Pond is open to kids 12 and under. Filer Pond is open to anglers of any age.

Freedom Park Pond – 1,000 Rainbow Trout. Located in Burley, this trout pond was built with young anglers in mind. It’s a great place to take the kids fishing!

Gavers Lagoon – 2,140 Rainbow Trout. This pond near the Hayspur Campground is a high yield fishery. We encourage harvest, but please harvest what you need and consider leaving a few for your fellow anglers.

Lower Lake Creek Lake – 1,050 Rainbow Trout. Located just north of Sun Valley, this small lake is a great place to cast a line.

Penny Lake – 1,400 Rainbow Trout. Great fishing on a small pond! This lake also offers hiking and biking opportunities.

Warm Springs Creek – 1,650 Rainbow Trout. This tributary of the Big Wood River is located just west of Ketchum.

Bannock Reservoir – 3,000 Rainbow Trout. Located within the Portneuf Wellness Complex near the County Fairgrounds in Pocatello, this community park offers good trout fishing. Multiple docks provide fishing access around the 5-acre pond.

Bear River – 2,000 Rainbow Trout. These fish will be stocked in the scenic Oneida Narrows reach of the river. Make it an overnight trip and set-up camp at Redpoint Campground.

Cub River – 750 Rainbow Trout. These fish will be stocked in and around the very popular Willow Flat Campground.

Edson Fichter Pond – 950 Rainbow Trout. This community pond is located along the Portneuf River at Edson Fichter Nature Area. It features several docks and a trail for access around the pond. Just minutes from downtown Pocatello, this site offers local anglers a convenient escape close to home.

Kelly Park Pond – 250 Rainbow Trout. Located in Soda Springs, accessing this pond requires a short walk, but it offers a great kids fishing opportunity. Lace up the boots, grab the fishing poles, and take the kids on a nature walk!

Mill Creek – 250 Rainbow Trout. Located about 15 miles north of Malad, this small creek flows in the shadows of Elkhorn Mountain. Fish will be stocked near the Malad Summit Campground.

Montpelier Creek – 1,000 Rainbow Trout. Enjoy good creek fishing and a variety of camping options. These fish will be stocked at multiple spots below the dam.

Montpelier Rearing Pond – 500 Rainbow Trout. This little fishing spot is tucked into a scenic high desert canyon in the hills east of Montpelier. It’s a great spot to take kids fishing.

Pebble Creek – 1,000 Rainbow Trout. Fish will be stocked in the Big Springs Campground and surrounding areas.

Ryder Park Pond (Becker Pond) – 875 Rainbow Trout. 

Ryder Park Riverside Pond – 875 Rainbow Trout.

These two ponds in Idaho Falls are located off Sunnyside Road. Catch rates are awesome and they provide a great place for new anglers or kids to try their hand at fishing.

Birch Creek – 3,400 Rainbow Trout. A productive spring creek in a high desert basin, this small stream is ideal for kids and less experienced anglers. Rainbow trout are stocked heavily around access areas and wild brook trout are fairly common.

Camas Creek – 750 Rainbow Trout. Located near Spencer, this has become a popular fishery. Come experience what it has to offer.

Gem Lake – 3,000 Rainbow Trout. Conveniently located near Idaho Falls at the Gem Lake Recreation Area.

Henrys Fork – 5,000 Rainbow Trout. World Famous for trout fishing! The river is suitable for wade fishing, bank fishing and fishing from a boat.

Mill Pond – 500 Rainbow Trout. Located in Fremont County, this is also known as Stoddard Mill Pond.

Rigby Lake (Jefferson County Lake) – 1,500 Rainbow Trout. Fishing is just one of the many family recreation opportunities available at this lake. Numerous campsites are available along with beaches for swimming, walking paths and a playground for the kids.

Snow Creek Pond (Teardrop Lake) – 1,800 Rainbow Trout. Located off the beaten path northeast of Ashton in the Targhee National Forest. Please Be Bear Aware!

Trail Creek Pond – 800 Rainbow Trout. Also known as Victor Kids Pond, this small, scenic pond is located in the lush Teton Basin. One of the most consistent kid’s fisheries in the area, it is easily fished from the bank, with trails and picnic tables around the perimeter.

Alturas Lake – 1,740 Rainbow Trout. This alpine lake is located in the Sawtooth National Recreation Area. The lake is approximately 21 miles south of Stanley and 30 miles northwest of Ketchum.

Bayhorse Lake – 4,000 Rainbow Trout. Anglers will find good catch rates at this drive-in mountain lake. Primitive campsites are available. While you’re in the area, check out Little Bayhorse Lake. The two lakes are connected by a mile long hiking trail.

Cape Horn Lake #1 – 240 Rainbow Trout. This is the larger of two picturesque lakes. Especially well-suited to float tubes or a small boat, this lake offers limited shoreline access. The area is good for wildlife viewing and is Stop 20 on the Idaho Birding Trail. Camping is available at nearby Forest Service sites. No facilities are available here.

Hayden Creek Pond – 1,000 Rainbow Trout. This is a family friendly fishing area in the high desert along Hayden Creek. Anglers will find ample bank fishing opportunities and a dock for anglers with limited mobility.

Hyde Creek Pond – 400 Rainbow Trout. This small irrigation pond is surrounded by sagebrush. The open site and level terrain provide ideal bank fishing for beginning anglers.

  • Josephus Lake #1 – 240 Rainbow Trout
  • Josephus Lake #2 – 240 Rainbow Trout

There are a few campsites available at the USFS Josephus Lake Campground and a hiking trail that heads west into the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness. Pack it in, Pack it out!

Kids Creek Pond – 800 Rainbow Trout. Near downtown Salmon, this small fishing pond is regularly stocked with rainbow trout so catch rates should be good! 

Little Bayhorse Lake – 2,000 Rainbow Trout. Anglers will find good catch rates at this drive-in mountain lake, either from shore or a small boat. 

Meadow Lake – 2,000 Rainbow Trout. At over 9,100 feet in elevation, this is the highest mountain lake you can drive to in this region. The snow-melt lake is a beautiful setting for a fishing and camping weekend with unique wildlife viewing opportunities. A Forest Service campground next to the lake offers a stunning view of the surrounding Lemhi Mountains.

Mosquito Flat Reservoir – 2,000 Rainbow Trout. Near Challis, this reservoir has a Forest Service campground and a day use picnic area along the shore. Anglers can also fish for kokanee.

Salmon River

  • Section #5 – O’Brien Campground to Torrey’s Hole – 400 Rainbow Trout.
  • Section #6 – Lower Stanley to Sunbeam Hot Springs – 2,000 Rainbow Trout.
  • Section #7 – Sunny Gulch Campground to Stanley – 400 Rainbow Trout.
  • Section #8 – Decker Flats to Buckhorn Bridge – 1,200 Rainbow Trout.

Sawtooth Kids Pond – 400 Rainbow Trout. This public fishing pond located at Sawtooth Fish Hatchery has both fish and fishing tackle, if needed. Inquire with hatchery staff about loaner tackle to catch rainbow trout from this well stocked pond.

Stanley Lake – 2,100 Rainbow Trout. This is a popular spot known for its breathtaking view of the Sawtooth Mountains. It offers great fishing and places for kids to explore nature.

Valley Creek – 1,500 Rainbow Trout. Take a break from the Salmon River and try out your casting skills fishing this creek that offers astonishing views in every direction!

Wallace Lake – 1,200 Rainbow Trout. Kids can enjoy fishing from shore and exploring the surrounding woods. Grownups will appreciate a peaceful retreat to a beautiful high mountain lake.

Yankee Fork Dredge Pond #1 – 240 Rainbow Trout. As part of a stream habitat restoration project, this pond was merged with a pool to the north with better access. There are several Forest Service campgrounds within a few miles. Historical sites, wildlife viewing, and extensive trails make this area an adventure destination. 

Yankee Fork Dredge Pond #4 – 240 Rainbow Trout. This is the northernmost of several ponds along the Yankee Fork that have been historically stocked for anglers. Services are limited.
