The recently installed dock, completed last week, is intended to improve public access and enhance fishing opportunities for local residents and visitors alike. Designed with families in mind, the spacious new dock offers better access to the deeper water portions of Johnson Pond.

“We’re thankful for the Johnson family’s willingness to work with IDFG and continue to provide this opportunity to the public”, said Greg Schoby, Regional Fisheries Manager for IDFG’s Salmon Region. “Johnson Pond has seen a tremendous amount of use since it’s been open to the public, and we’re proud to invest in upgrades that make fishing more enjoyable and accessible”.

The dock purchase and installation were funded through fishing license sales.

The Idaho Department of Fish and Game invites the public to visit Johnson Pond this summer to enjoy the new facilities. Located eight miles south of Salmon, Johnson Pond is the largest community fishing pond in the area.  Johnson Pond is bordered to the north by the Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) Eight Mile River Access. Anglers can access the pond by parking at BLM’s access site and walking 50 yards to the pond.

Named after Val B. Johnson, the pond is accessed thanks to an agreement with the Johnson Family, who still own the property. Anglers and other recreationists are reminded that Dahle’s Red-E-Mix has an active gravel mining operation on the southwest side of the pond, which is marked by the fenced boundary. Fish and Game asks the public to please act responsibly and respect the property boundaries and rules in place to ensure continued access.
