Despite summer losses, Idaho's next generation of sockeye is on track — IDFG News Release - December 1, 2015.

Sockeye returns were lowest since 2007, but Idaho Fish and Game is on track to produce a record number of young fish to release for migration in 2017.

Fish and Game fisheries technician Lizzie Parkinson divides a batch of sockeye eggs into two portions to be fertilized by different males. Fish biologist Christine Kozfkay records the lineage so when their offspring return, biologists can avoid, or minimize, inbreeding among the small population of sockeye.
