Move opening day of trapping season in multiple regions
Proposal
Move the opening date of trapping season to October 15 for beaver, mink, muskrat, and river otter in the Panhandle, Clearwater, Magic Valley, Southeast, Upper Snake, and Salmon regions.
Justification
Currently, the opening date for beaver, mink, muskrat, and river otter trapping seasons in these regions opens either October 22 or November 1.
This proposal aligns opening dates across six of Fish and Game’s seven administrative regions and would allow for more trapping opportunity before freezing temperatures makes trapping aquatic furbearer species prohibitive.
The public comment period runs through 6 p.m. MST, December 3, 2023.
After reviewing feedback and considering agency goals, season recommendations will be presented to the Commission for their consideration at their January 2024 meeting.
