Women's Outdoor Skills Clinic Scheduled For June 24-26

LEWISTON - - Fly fishing, archery hunting, outdoor survival, steelhead fishing, and rifle, shotgun and muzzleloader shooting are just some of the topics being offered during the Women's Outdoor Clinic scheduled June 24-26 at Hell's Gate State Park in Lewiston. Sponsored by the Idaho Department of Fish and Game (IDFG) and the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF), the weekend event will provide an interactive, non-competitive, educational outdoor experience for women. The event will run from Friday 6 p.m. to Sunday noon. The cost is $50 for adults and $20 for young women 12 to 17 years old, which includes a Dutch oven dinner, continental breakfast, snacks, all supplies and equipment. A participating parent or guardian must accompany young women who register. Registration forms can be obtained from the IDFG office, 1540 Warner Ave, Lewiston, ID 83501, or by calling 208-799-5010. The overall goals are to increase women participation in outdoor-related activities and to teach of the importance of responsible resource management. More importantly, the clinic will provide the foundation for women to become outdoor leaders and to develop a network of women with similar interests. "The women will have a chance to learn and develop skills in something they have always wanted to do, but have never had the opportunity," says Jill Green, an IDFG volunteer who has coordinated the event the last several years. "They'll have a blast, plus they'll walk away with a new confidence." The women will gain hands-on training and received information by rotating from various one-hour sessions. Other training sessions include tracking, map and compass reading, first aid, proper game care, hunting laws and regulations. Participants will also receive a 1-year membership to the Federal, a quarterly magazine from the Women in Outdoors Program and a NWTF multi-use knife.
