Volunteers Sought for Seed Collection

idfg-nnokkentved
Recent summer fires burned more than one million acres of wild lands in the Magic Valley. To help reestablish this lost habitat, the Idaho Department of Fish and Game is looking for help to collect sagebrush seed this fall. The seed collected will be used in the Magic Valley Region to replace lost native habitat on state and federal public lands. "We are looking for clubs, groups or individuals to help us with this project," said Ed Papenberg, a Fish and Game volunteer coordinator. "We are looking to collect as much seed as possible, and the more volunteers we have, the more work we can accomplish." Idaho Fish and Game is looking for volunteers for the weekends of November 10 and 17 and December 1, 8 and 15. Most days volunteers will be asked to collect seed from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. People interested in participating should keep the following in mind: - Dates are subject to revision depending on seed ripeness. - Participants should dress for cold or windy weather and bring their own lunch and drinks. - There will be several collection sites throughout the region, but sites have not been matched to dates as yet. - Families are welcome, but prepare youngsters for potentially chilly weather. For information or to volunteer call Papenberg at 324-4359.
