Upper Salmon and Snake River Chinook Fisheries Closing

idfg-sliebenthal
Fish and Game Director Virgil Moore has signed an order closing the Chinook salmon fishery on the upper Salmon River and the Snake River. The closure will take effect at the end of fishing on Sunday July 27. Fishery managers believe by July 27, the sport fishery will have harvested the non-tribal share of Chinook salmon returning to the upper Salmon and Snake Rivers. This closure coincides with the final closure of the Little Salmon River, marking the end of the spring/summer Chinook season, except on the Boise River, where Chinook from Rapid River are transplanted. Fishery managers are anticipating a larger than average return of fall Chinook to the Columbia River Basin. Idaho's fall Chinook season begins September 1. Season and rules brochures for the fall Chinook salmon season in Idaho will be available soon at license vendors and on Fish and Game's website.
