idfg-sliebenthal
Fish and Game is asking the public for information regarding the recent poaching of a cow elk near Long Tom Reservoir. The poaching incident took place northeast of Mountain Home, just off of the Cow Creek Road, approximately two miles northwest of Highway 20, and occurred sometime between the evening of October 4th and the morning of October 5th. Citizens Against Poaching (CAP) is offering a reward for information in the case and callers can remain anonymous. Contact CAP at 1-800-632-5999 twenty four hours a day. Responding to the initial report, Fish and Game conservation officer Greg Milner found the elk shot and left to waste only 200 yards from Cow Creek Road. A high-powered rifle was used to poach the elk which apparently fell dead immediately after being hit. No evidence suggested that the poacher(s) attempted to retrieve any part of the carcass. The cow's young calf was observed by Milner still trying to nurse from its dead mother. Evidence was collected at the scene, but Milner hopes to learn more about the case from an eyewitness or others who have knowledge of the poaching incident. "I am very interested in visiting with anyone who has information regarding this poaching case," Milner stated. In addition to the CAP hotline, persons with information regarding this case may also contact the Fish and Game Nampa office at 208-465-8465 weekdays and Idaho State Police at 208-846-7550 on weekends.
