Idaho Fish and Game

Officials Work to Ensure OHV Users Follow the Rules

idfg-nnokkentved
As the number of off-highway-vehicle users exceeds 100,000 in Idaho, the Idaho Fish and Game and the U.S. Forest Service are working to ensure they obey forest and game rules. The rules are meant to prevent habitat damage, disruption of others and reduce disturbance to wildlife. Because national forests are managed for multiple uses and a wide variety of users, officials say it is key that everyone follows the established rules. The variety of motorized recreation options continues to expand and many users are new to the mechanized realm. To educate the public and enforce travel and hunting related regulations, the Caribou-Targhee National Forest and the Idaho Department of Fish and Game will be on the ground and in the air for the remainder of the hunting season. For forest users with OHVs who are planning to hunt both upland and big game, it is important that they review Page 68 of the current big game hunting regulations. Obtaining a forest travel plan from a local Forest Service office is also important. The Fish and Game Web site at: www.fishandgame.idaho.gov and the Forest Service Web site at: www.fs.fed.us/r4/caribou-targhee have sections pertaining to OHV use.
