Anglers on the upper Salmon River reported catching steelhead in all river location codes downstream of Salmon

Steelhead fishing improved over the past week on the upper Salmon River. Despite poor weather on Saturday, angler effort during the weekend increased, and anglers reported catching steelhead in all river location codes downstream of Salmon.

The majority of angler effort was located downstream of North Fork, but effort upstream of North Fork in location code 16 increased as well. Anglers interviewed downstream of the Middle Fork in location code 14 averaged 34 hours per steelhead caught. Anglers interviewed downstream of North Fork in location code 15 averaged 42 hours per steelhead caught, and anglers interviewed downstream of the Lemhi River in location code 16 averaged 78 hours per steelhead caught. Effort upstream of the Lemhi River in location code 17 was low, and no angler interviews were obtained.  Check the Harvest Report for more details.

The Salmon River is currently flowing at 1,340 cfs through the town of Salmon, which is 103 percent of average for today’s date. Additionally, river conditions on Sunday remained good with water temperatures in the mid-40s and clear visibility.
