Mountain lion take season closures have occurred in several southeast Idaho big game management units this month, with new closure orders effective December 18, 2019. The specifics regarding these closures for affected units are as follows:
Units 75, 77, and 78
- The take season for female mountain lions in these units is closed effective December 18, 2019. Hunters will be allowed to keep female mountain lions taken in these units prior to this closure and must report them within 5 days of harvest.
- The male harvest limit in these units was previously met and the take season closed earlier this month.
- A dog training season (pursuit only—no harvest) for both female and male mountain lion in these units is open and shall close March 31, 2020.
Units 70, 71, 72, 73, 73A, and 74
- The take season for male mountain lions in these units is closed effective December 18, 2019. Hunters will be allowed to keep male mountain lions taken in these units prior to this closure and must report them within 5 days of harvest.
- These units are still open to harvest for female mountain lions only, consistent with limits established in the 2019-2020 Idaho Big Game Seasons and Rules.
- A dog training season (pursuit only—no harvest) for male mountain lion in these units is open, effective immediately, and shall close March 31, 2020.
Units 66A and 76
- As a reminder, the take season for male mountain lions in these units closed earlier this month, effective December 9, 2019.
- These units are still open to harvest for female mountain lions only, consistent with limits established in the 2019-2020 Idaho Big Game Seasons and Rules.
- A dog training season (pursuit only—no harvest) for male mountain lion in these units is open, effective immediately, and shall close March 31, 2020.
