Mountain Home Reservoir to open for fish salvage

idfg-mdemick

Because of low runoff and high demand for water, Mountain Home Reservoir in Elmore County will open to public fish salvage starting Saturday, July 2.

The salvage, which suspends fish bag, possession, and size limits, will be effective through October 1, 2016.  Anglers must have a valid Idaho fishing license. With the exception of firearms, explosives, chemicals and electricity, fish may be taken with any method, including seines and dip nets.  All fish must be killed before transport from the reservoir.

Idaho Fish and Game stocked the reservoir with about 6,000 catchable-size trout this spring and would like the public to use as many of the fish as possible.

“We'd like to encourage licensed anglers to take advantage of the salvage opportunity rather than see these fish go to waste,” said Jeff Dillon, State Fisheries Manager.

The reservoir is anticipated to be nearly dry by late July.  For more information, contact the Fish and Game office in Nampa at 208-465-8465.
