Mandatory Hunter Report Data Now Online

idfg-mcoleman
Data from mandatory hunter reports are now available online where hunters can seen the results of other hunters' reports. A link from the Idaho Fish and Game mandatory hunter report webpage connects to a contractor's Web site page with running tallies of tags issued, number of animals taken, number of hunters who hunted but did not harvest an animal and the number of reports submitted. To view the data, click on 2009 Hunt and Harvest Reporting Numbers for Deer, Elk and Pronghorn at the bottom of the hunter report page, which is found at the link below the picture on the Fish and Game homepage at http://fishandgame.idaho.gov/. The data page is updated hourly. The numbers are from reports received to date, but they are incomplete for the season. The season harvest estimates will be completed early in 2010. Data are available for all deer, elk, and pronghorn general and controlled hunts. Controlled hunt results are listed by hunt number, such as Hunt No. 1001 or Hunt No. 2002. Elk general hunt results are listed by elk zone and tag type, such as Boise River A, or Sawtooth B. Deer general hunt results are listed by game management unit for mule deer and white-tailed deer. More than 27,000 hunter reports have been filed so far this year. All deer, elk and pronghorn hunters must complete and submit a report within 10 days of harvest or within 10 days of the close of the season for each tag issued. They are required to submit a report even if they did not hunt. The easiest way is to submit the hunter report is online at http://fishandgame.idaho.gov. Click on the logo below the photo. Or go to https://www.idaho-hunt.com and use your hunting license or tag number and the first four letters of your last name. Reports also may be mailed to: Idaho Fish and Game, Mandatory Hunter Reports, P.O. Box 70007, Boise, ID 83707-0107 or called in toll-free at 1-877-268-9365 or faxed to 1-775-423-0799. The mandatory hunter reports help monitor the outcome of the fall hunting seasons for deer, elk, and pronghorn. Fish and Game officials use this information to estimate the number of animals harvested and the effect on the game populations in each area. Data will be analyzed in early 2010 to assess the harvest. Hunters who file mandatory hunter reports early save themselves some hassle and save Fish and Game expenses. Reminder postcards will go into the mail Monday, November 9, for hunters who have not yet filed a report on any of their tags.
