Learn New Outdoor Skills This Spring

idfg-mcoleman
Outdoor enthusiasts will have a chance to learn new skills at three hands-on clinics offered by the Idaho Department of Fish and Game in the Salmon Region this spring. Hunters, anglers, hikers and other outdoor enthusiasts will learn how to get "Off the Beaten Path" from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 19. Participants at this free workshop will learn how to use a compass, read a topographical map, and use GPS. Two different clinics will be held on Saturday, May 3. "Beginning Fly-fishing for Women" is from 9 a.m. to noon, and "Using Tree Stands" will start at 10 a.m. and is expected to last until 4 p.m. Women and girls will learn the basics of fly-fishing from local angler and guide Kirk Eberhard. This will be great opportunity for mothers, daughters, sisters and friends to enjoy a morning together learning something new. There is a $35 fee, and participants should be at least 12 years old. If you have been considering tree stands for hunting, but want to know more about what type to use, how to set it up, and how to prevent accidents, sign up for "Using Tree Stands." You will learn how to pick the right tree, pathway, and shooting lane. Participants will gain hands-on experience in setting a tree stand properly for both safety and shot placement. This free clinic is open to anyone over 16 years old. Bring a lunch and be prepared to spend the day outdoors. Individuals with disabilities may contact the Fish and Game office at 756-2271 or the Idaho Relay Service at 1-800-377-2529 (TDD) to request accommodations for any of these clinics. Please call the Salmon Regional Fish and Game office at 756-2271 or e-mail bjakubos@idfg.idaho.gov for more information and to register for a clinic.
