International Migratory Bird Day 2005

idfg-staff
Celebrate International 005 Migratory Bird Day at the Morrison Knudsen Nature Center Saturday, May 14. This family event celebrates the amazing journeys of migratory birds as they travel between winter and summer habitats. Here in Boise, we'll be celebrating with bird walks, bird banding demonstrations, live birds of prey programs and several activities for the kids. International Migratory Bird Day, which is celebrated around the globe, was created to draw attention to birds, their habitats and the need to protect their future. IMBD coordinators have chosen "collisions" as this year's theme. Birds encounter many obstacles that make their journey more difficult. Wind turbines, windows, power lines, cell phone towers and cars are just a few. Find out what's happening on a local level to protect birds from collisions. Scheduled Events Friday, May 13 (MK Nature Center Auditorium, 600 S. Walnut St., Boise) - Winged Migration, 7 p.m. "Witness five film crews following a rich variety of bird migrations through 40 countries and each of the seven continents. With teams totaling more than 450 people, 17 pilots and 14 cinematographers used planes, gliders, and helicopters and balloons to fly alongside, above, below and in front of their subjects." - Free admission, seating limited and on a first-come first-served basis.
