Idaho Fish and Game

Geese Trashed, Public Help Sought

idfg-nnokkentved
The discovery of 19 Canada geese tossed carelessly along the roadside has prompted Idaho Fish and Game to offer a reward for information about the case. Persons with information regarding the case are urged to call the Citizens Against Poaching hotline at 1-800-632-5999. Callers may remain anonymous and will be eligible for a cash reward. The geese were dumped along Black Cat Road in Kuna and discovered on Friday, January 8, by a local landowner. When he arrived on the scene the next morning, Conservation Officer Matt O'Connell found the 19 geese scattered across the roadside ditchbank. "This case goes beyond a total lack of respect for wildlife," O'Connell said. "The slobs who did this give honest, ethical hunters a bad name." The condition of the birds leads O'Connell to believe that they were shot at different times, but all within a few days of being dumped. Curiously, the remains of nine other geese were also found at the scene. All had been field dressed, with the breast meat removed. The hotline is available 24 hours a day. "Someone out there knows who wasted and dumped these geese," O'Connell said. "I'd really like to hear from that person."
