idfg-sliebenthal
Just like the calls of the migrating ducks and geese herald the return of spring, another sure sign is the annual free Youth Outdoor Skills Day, an event created to help introduce young people and their families to the wide variety of exciting outdoor activities available in Idaho This year's event will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Beaver Dick Park, six miles west of Rexburg on Highway 33. Designed to be fun and educational, the overall goal is to allow young people to try their hand at all types of exciting outdoor sports that they might never otherwise be exposed to. Experts will be on hand to answer questions and make sure everything is done safely. Seminars include: archery, muzzleloading, pellet gun shooting, outdoor survival, fishing rods and reels, trapping, boat safety, dog training, backpacking, waterfowl hunting, hides and horns, leave no trace practices, hound hunting, 4H and outdoor crafts, Citizens Against Poaching and Mule Deer Foundation. If attendees visit at least six of the seminars then they will be entered in a drawing to win a rifle. Youth seven to eleven years of age could win a .22 rifle and those twelve to seventeen will have the chance at a larger caliber rifle. Free hamburgers, hotdogs and drinks will be available. Advance registration is not required. This annual event has been sponsored by local sportsmen's groups and the Idaho Department of Fish and Game for over a decade.
