Improved water management, increased waterfowl hunting opportunity and enhanced waterfowl habitat are the over-arching goals of a large-scale wetland habitat project planned for portions of Fort Boise Wildlife Management Area (WMA) located near Parma. The multi-faceted wetland project at the popular recreation area is the result of grant funding received by the Idaho Department of Fish and Game.
WMA users have the opportunity to assist with prioritizing the long list of WMA ponds to be improved during the project, tentatively slated for completion in the fall of 2020.
On Tuesday, August 6th from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, an informational meeting to review project scope will be held at the new Fish and Game Southwest Region office, located at 15950 N. Gate Boulevard in Nampa. An open house session will follow, with attendees given the opportunity to discuss project components in greater detail with staff and to complete a survey outlining which areas of the WMA should receive project priority.

The project calls for improvements to Swan, Redhead, Mallard, Whitefront, Sedge, Wood Duck and Pintail Ponds. Specific project goals include independent water delivery to each pond, increasing the number of outlet structures, installation of flow measurement devices, removal of sediment and vegetation and widening of existing dikes from eight feet to 12 feet.
