Fly Fishing Clinic Set to Hook Women Anglers

idfg-nnokkentved
Wade aside men - more women are likely to be hip deep in your favorite river soon. A fly fishing clinic specifically for women ages 12 and older will be held in Lewiston to introduce beginner anglers to casting techniques, equipment use, knot tying, fly selection, how to read water and, most importantly, how to catch fish. The clinic includes two evening sessions in Lewiston from 6 to 8:30 p.m. September 2 and 9, and then an overnight campout and two days of personalized fishing instruction on a scenic Idaho river September 12 and 13. Space is limited, and registration will be first-come-first-served with a September 1 deadline. The cost is $50 for adults and $20 for young women 12 to 17 years old and includes a Saturday snack, evening dinner and Sunday breakfast with coffee. Fly rods and reels will be provided to those who do not own equipment, but participants must bring all other fishing gear, waders, camping equipment, food and beverage. "Fly fishing can seem intimidating, but it's not rocket science," says Ginny Foote, coordinator of the event. "It's a very satisfying hobby and for women wanting to try it - the first step is getting your feet wet." Women must hold a valid Idaho fishing license and be physically fit to hike rough, uneven terrain and wade in a river. Registration forms are available at http://www.kellycreekflycasters.org or at the Lewiston Fish and Game office, 3316 16th St., Lewiston. Sponsored Kelly Creek Flycasters and Idaho Fish and Game, the overall goal is to introduce women to the joys of fly fishing by providing them basic information and hands-on experiences.
