Fish and Game Working to Improve Dawson Lake Facilities

idfg-nnokkentved
The Idaho Department of Fish and Game is applying for an Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation grant to improve public fishing access at Dawson Lake in Boundary County. The funding for the site improvements would be coming from state fishing and boating license funds, matched with grant funds generated by the sale of cutthroat trout license plates. The popular Dawson Lake fishing access site is in need of improvements to accommodate the increased public use; and, to provide for safe vehicle approaches off County Road 43. If funded, the project is scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2012. Improvements would include a larger parking area, the development of day use picnic sites, improved access to the ADA restroom and fishing dock, and realigned entrances with increased visibility for safer use. The Kootenai Valley Sportsman's Association has been actively working with the Fish and Game to improve the Dawson Lake access site. In 2010, Fish and Game and the Sportsman's Association constructed a trail connecting the two fishing docks. Anyone who would like to comment on the Dawson Lake improvements or would like more information, please contact Jim Teare, Fish and Game, 208-769-1414.
