Fish and Game Seeks Help Solving Elk Poaching

idfg-mcoleman
Idaho Fish and Game is asking for help in determining who shot and wasted an elk cow discovered October 11 near the Upper Fords Road near Orofino. Officers think the elk was shot from the Upper Fords Road near mile marker 14 the morning of Monday, October 11, or late on October 10. Most of the meat had been taken, but some of it was left to waste. There is currently an antlered-only elk hunt in progress in the area. "We have very little to go on, but we have had similar situations that sportsmen were able to provide us information, and we caught the violators," said Barry Cummings, district conservation officer. "If anyone saw a vehicle parked near that location, we would sure like to know it." Anyone observing suspicious activity in this area or with information about this crime is encouraged to contact the Fish and Game office in Lewiston at 208-799-5010, the Citizens Against Poaching hotline at 1-800-632-5999, or Senior Conservation Officer John McLain at 208-827-1488. Callers may remain anonymous and may be eligible for a $250 reward.
