Fish and Game Plants Fish at Jensen Grove Park

The summer landscape at Jensen Grove Park in Blackfoot is usually dotted with water skiers, swimmers, picnickers, trail users -- and this summer, it will add anglers. On Tuesday, the Idaho Department of Fish and Game in cooperation with the city of Blackfoot planted 2,000 rainbow trout (average size 10 inches) in the waters of Jensen Grove Park. More trout will be stocked in a few weeks. "We are extremely pleased and excited to be working with the City of Blackfoot by offering fishing at Jensen Grove," said David Teuscher, regional fisheries manager for Fish and Game's Southeast Region. "Jensen Grove will be a great place to take young anglers and will provide a fishing opportunity that is close to home." Because the water in Jensen Grove Park does not remain year round, this stocking effort provides a seasonal fishing opportunity. However, Fish and Game has many examples in other parts of Idaho where 6-8 month fisheries are well used and experience high catch rates on stocked rainbow trout. Jensen Grove Park is very popular, so Fish and Game asks anglers to please follow the fishing signs that designate areas for shoreline fishing. Trout limit will be six per day, with no length requirements. All anglers 14 and older are required to have a fishing license. Developing community fishing waters is a high priority for the Idaho Department of Fish and Game. "These efforts help bring fishing opportunities close to home, which is especially important during tough economic times," Teuscher said.
