Idaho Fish and Game

Family Outdoor Festival Planned for November

idfg-mdemick
Even though general deer season is just getting started, Idaho Fish and Game is excited to share information about a special event coming in November. The Second Annual Family Outdoor Festival is scheduled for Saturday, November 1, at Little Birch Creek Preserve in Robin. The festival runs from 9:00 am until 4:00 pm. This special day will be filled with numerous activities and experiences that promise to bring wonderful outdoor adventures to the whole family! Hands-on learning stations will be set-up for participants, including duck calling and decoy set-up, elk calling, bird cleaning and cooking, tomahawk and knife throwing, and black powder shooting. In addition, there will be air rifle and archery ranges, a trap shoot, fly casting instruction, and an opportunity to do some trout fishing at a private pond at the preserve. And, a free lunch is provided! One of the most exciting parts of the whole outdoor festival is the guided pheasant hunts for youth (at least 10 years of age) and women. Mentors and dog handlers with experienced hunting dogs will be on-hand to provide instruction and guidance to hunt participants. All hunters must have completed a Hunter Education course prior to participating in a guided hunt, and all hunters must have a hunting license. Reservations for participating in the pheasant hunt are required and can be made by calling Idaho Fish and Game in Pocatello at 208-232-4703. All activities in the Family Outdoor Festival, including the pheasant hunt, are free to the public. This is possible because of these wonderful sponsors: Little Birch Creek Preserve, Pheasants Forever, Ducks Unlimited, Pocatello Field Archers, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Trout Unlimited, Portneuf Muzzleloaders, National Wild Turkey Federation, Boy Scouts of America, and Dutchboy Farms. Idaho Fish and Game is also excited to be a part of this incredibly important event that helps connect youth and families to the great outdoors and to the traditions of hunting and fishing. The success of this outdoor festival is also dependent on our incredible volunteers! We already have commitment from sportsmen organization members, hunter ed instructors, businesses, and other wonderful outdoors enthusiasts. If you, your organization, or your business would like to be a part of this Family Outdoor Festival, it is not too late! Please contact Jason Beck via email at jason.beck@idfg.idaho.gov or by calling 208-251-7438 for more information about the outdoor festival or to find out how you can help.
