Community Fishing Pond Moves Forward; Public Asked to Obey Closure

idfg-nnokkentved
The earth is really moving and shaking over at the Edson Fichter Nature Area in Pocatello as construction crews continue digging the much-anticipated community fishing pond. The Idaho Department of Fish and Game would like to remind folks that the Edson Fichter Nature Area is closed to the public at this time. Fish and Game knows the closure is inconvenient for those who love using the nature area, but this closure is for public safety as well as to facilitate construction activities. Your cooperation and patience is appreciated. Right now, the main focus of construction activities at the site is the excavation of the pond itself. When completed, a liner will be installed sometime during the first week of September and then covered with topsoil. By the end of October this year, the pond should be filled with water, and the nature area will be reopened to public access. The Edson Fichter Nature Area is located to the south of Cheyenne Avenue in the south side of Pocatello near Indian Hills Elementary. Because the entire site is closed to access during construction, even that portion of the Portneuf Greenway trail system that runs through the site is closed. Fish and Game appreciates the public's support for the pond and its understanding of this temporary closure. For more information, please contact Fish and Game at 208-232-4703.
