Black Bear Hunters Kill Grizzly Bear in Island Park

idfg-sliebenthal
The Idaho Department of Fish & Game is assisting the United States Fish & Wildlife Service with investigating the killing of an 11-year old male grizzly bear by black bear hunters on Wednesday, May 7, 2014. The incident occurred on the Caribou-Targhee Forest, just off of the Cave Falls Road in Idaho. Both black bears and grizzly bears are known to frequent the area just outside of the southwest corner of Yellowstone National Park. The incident is under investigation and information will be released as it becomes available. Hunters are reminded that since both black bears and grizzly bears can be found in the Island Park area of Idaho that it is important that their identification skills are up to speed. For a number of years now the Idaho Department of Fish & Game has dedicated a portion of its website to educating about bear identification and even includes a free bear ID quiz.
