Idaho Fish and Game

Become and Idaho Master Naturalist

idfg-lfrench
An Idaho Master Naturalist chapter is forming in Idaho Falls with the first meeting to be at 6 p.m. Friday, July 17, at the Idaho Fish and Game regional office at 4279 Commerce Circle, Idaho Falls. Anyone who enjoys and appreciates Idaho's outdoors can be an Idaho master naturalist. Idaho master naturalists can volunteer at nature centers, provide programs for children, help biologists collect data, monitor wildlife, assist at parks and natural areas, or contribute many other conservation efforts. To become certified as a master naturalist, students are required to complete 40 hours of classroom and hands-on, experiential training about Idaho's ecology, plants, animals and natural systems. In addition, students are required to complete 40 hours of volunteer work for local conservation agencies. The cost to enroll in the program and become an Idaho Master Naturalist is $85. This includes a large binder with the statewide curriculum, a file box to keep track of important information, and training from a variety of expert professionals in the field. Through the Idaho Master Naturalist Program, you will participate in and guide conservation efforts; join a statewide network of dedicated, trained volunteers who work toward conservation; and further your education and interest in nature. Anyone interested in the program or for more information may contact: Kaleb Phelps, Idaho Fish and Game Volunteer Coordinator, 390-6618 or kaleb.phelps@idfg.idaho.gov.
