Q: I noticed that a short section of the Salmon River will be open for Fall Chinook. Is there a hatchery for fall Chinook on the Salmon River? A: No, but a certain number of hatchery fall Chinook spend some time in the Salmon River because the water temperature can be more optimum than the temperature of the Snake River. Most of the fall Chinook that come into the Salmon eventually move back into the Snake River. The section of the Salmon that is open for fishing is a very short stretch upstream of where it runs into the Snake.
