Ask Fish & Game: Boise River Steelhead

Q. Will Fish and Game be planting steelhead in the Boise River this fall? A. Yes. Enough steelhead are arriving at the Hells Canyon trap to allow us to move some of those fish to the Boise River. We will release approximately 300 steelhead this Thursday, November 6 at the traditional locations between Glenwood Bridge and Barber Park. We hope to release more before the end of the year. A steelhead permit is required to fish for and keep steelhead (rainbow trout longer than 20 inches with a clipped adipose fin). Limits are 3 per day and 9 in possession when steelhead are present in the Boise River. Barbless hooks are not required on the Boise River.
