Lake Cascade Ice Fishing Update 2/2/17

idfg-pjanssen

The ice conditions as of Friday AM are very good. Lots of rain yesterday took away the slush and made good travel conditions. Anglers are even using 4 wheelers to get around. The parking areas are very ice covered and slick with rain water cuts, so be careful.

There is a perch fishing tournament at the City Ramp on both Sat. and Sunday, so expect tighter parking.

Mid week fishing pressure has been light depending on the weather conditions of any given day, however weekends remain a busy time on Lake Cascade with the parking lots of Poison Creek boat ramp and Cascade City Ramp being nearly full on Saturdays and Sundays. The road to Sugarloaf boat ramp is not plowed and there is limited parking on the road adjacent to hwy 55.

Fishing success for perch in particular, has remained fair to good over the last two weeks with the majority of anglers averaging 5 to 10 perch per outing but some groups are reporting good success with catches of perch ranging from 20 to 40 fish.  Many of which are the 12 to 14+ inch jumbos!  Rainbow trout fishing appears to be improving with considerably more reports of trout being caught since last weekend. Lake Cascade fish are well fed which helps explain the slow fishing but is also the reason that perch get so large.
