The Idaho Department of Fish and Game is seeking two (2) Wildlife technicians. These positions will be located at our Southwest Regional office located in McCall, ID. These are 1 month, non-benefited temporary positions and are expected to work up to 40 hours per week. Housing may be available for the employees only. No pets.

Supplemental Information: 

Positions in this classification are used for data management, wildlife management, or wildlife research. Some positions may travel to remote locations for data collection and maintenance activities and may require the physical ability to walk and backpack for several hours; operate four-wheel drive and/or off-road vehicles in rugged terrain; lift and carry up to 65 pounds; and work in extreme weather conditions. Evening, weekend, and holiday work may be required. 

Responsibilities

  • Work independently and as part of a team to deploy remote wildlife monitoring cameras in the region.
  • Camera deployment involves on-and off-trail travel, navigation with maps and GPS devices while carrying heavy loads, with some sites requiring hikes of 5+ miles per day in potentially adverse weather conditions.
  • Organize and maintain trail cameras and deployment equipment.
  • Follow established protocols, accurately collect and record field site data, and ensure careful entry into Survey123.
  • Assist with other wildlife management tasks in the region as needed.  

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Some knowledge of wildlife ecology and habitat requirements; and wildlife habitat evaluation and management practices.
  • Experience recording, summarizing, or analyzing biological data.
  • Valid driver’s license.

 

In addition to the minimum qualifications, the ideal candidates will possess a strong basis in knowledge of wildlife species and their habitats usually acquired through 2 years of experience or completion of 2 years of coursework in an accredited Wildlife Biology Program or closely related field. The ideal candidates have experience driving on and navigating primitive dirt roads. They have experience with remote camera deployment, data entry, and following instructions to complete assignments with limited direct supervision. Additional consideration may be given at the time of the interview to candidates who have this experience.
