About the position

The Sawtooth Fish Hatchery is seeking One (1) Fisheries Biological Aide/Tour Guide (non-benefited) to provide visitor information and give daily hatchery tours, and assist with trapping, spawning, and rearing Chinook salmon in Stanley, Idaho.  Dates Needed: May 18, 2026 - September 18, 2026 (Some flexibility is available with exact start and end dates) 

General Information
With or without reasonable accommodations, incumbents must be able to stand and work in cold water for up to five hours per shift; lift and carry equipment weighing up to 60 pounds; and work in extreme weather conditions. Dormitory style housing is provided free of charge. Incumbents will work 40 hours per week. Work hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, although occasional weekend work rotations will be required.
Qualifications
Applicants must be well organized, detail oriented, self-motivated, and safety conscious. Must have a demonstrated ability to handle responsibility and work independently. Patient, friendly personality, and good communication skills are essential. Fisheries related experience and education strongly preferred, but not required. Must be 18 years of age, and have a valid driver’s license.
Responsibilities
Tour Guide- Become familiar with hatchery operations and target-fish (Chinook salmon, steelhead, sockeye salmon, rainbow trout) life histories in order to share that information with hatchery visitors on daily tours. Maintain hatchery visitor center. Update information boards (information regarding steelhead and salmon returns). Distribute fish stocking and fish trapping information to area businesses. Keep informational brochures stocked. Tend to any other visitor information services as needed. Additional time is often available to the tour guide, with which they can work towards becoming familiar with hatchery operations, interacting with the public in other informational venues, or providing additional services to Sawtooth Valley visitors. Assist with other fish culture duties as time permits, including trapping and spawning Chinook salmon; feeding fish, weighing out fish feed, cleaning and caring for fish rearing vessels; maintaining grounds and equipment; cleaning visitor center and hatchery facilities.
